eLearning Days
Broncho Family,

The Lafayette School Corporation is piloting a new eLearning Day program during the 2019-2020 school year for students in Grades 5-12. Participating schools will include Sunnyside, Tecumseh, Oakland High School, and Jefferson. ELearning programs have been utilized throughout Indiana for nearly a decade, and LSC students are well-equipped to participate given their experience with their individually-issued computers and daily use of them for instruction.

For this pilot year of the program, two (2) eLearning Days have been scheduled on predetermined dates (November 6, 2019 and January 30, 2020). Students will work on their lessons from home and submit their assignments electronically to their teachers. At the school buildings, Technology staff will be just a phone call or email away should technical assistance be needed. Teachers will have set “office hours” which will be advertised to students in advance so that they can be reached by phone or email very quickly for assistance with the lessons. As always, students with IEPs/504 plans and ELL students will have accommodations for their eLearning lessons. Additionally, staff will have the opportunity to participate in professional development on eLearning Days that could include work on, for example, curriculum, school improvement plans, special trainings, and school safety protocols.

To prepare students for our pilot eLearning Days, staff will communicate expectations to students in the days leading up to them. Teachers will be encouraged to develop quality lessons that meet the same academic standards and skills that would be practiced on any other typical day of school. Students will be expected to submit work electronically for every class on the eLearning Day, which will serve as their attendance for the class.

Please note that these eLearning Days are scheduled for November 6, 2019 and January 30, 2020, and only students in Grades 5-12 will be participating. The program will not be utilized in LSC for inclement weather.

Teachers will be sharing the following information with students prior to the eLearning Day to communicate expectations and how to successfully meet them on eLearning days:

-Email address for questions or clarifications.
-Voicemail extensions for questions or clarifications (765-772-4700 extension XXXX). Students should remember to leave a number where they can be reached!
-Procedures for completing the eLearning lessons.

All teachers will have designated “office hours” when students should be able receive a rapid response from teachers. Those times are 8:55-9:40 AM and 1:45-2:25 PM. Otherwise, teachers have been advised to respond to questions from students as quickly as possible on eLearning days, bearing in mind that they will be participating in professional development for part of the day.

Students who have technical issues with their devices can contact 765-772-4700 and ask to be directed to the TAC Shop for help.

In most cases, depending on specific directions from their teachers, students will access their electronic lessons by signing into Canvas and following the posted directions. Lessons will be posted no later than 8:05 AM.

Students who have Internet connectivity issues at home or who cannot access WiFi on eLearning days should communicate with teachers in advance so that they can be assisted with downloading the materials at school. Arrangements for submitting work can be made at that time.

The student’s participation/completion of the eLearning lesson will count as attendance for that particular class period. There will not be a lesson for study halls.

Because students will not be at school on this date, the buses will not be running for students in Grades 5-12.

Staff members have been advised that after school clubs, activities, and athletics may start after 3:15 PM, as usual.

We all recognize that eLearning is new to the Lafayette School Corporation (including students, parents, and staff). We have attempted to address as many questions and concerns as possible in advance and will plan to adjust after our first eLearning day as needed. Flexibility and an open mind for all participants are appreciated.

Thank you, and we look forward to successful eLearning days!
